Building Recertification by Eastern Engineering Group
The Falls Shopping Center, which spans 827,646 square feet, required a 40-year Recertification, and Eastern Engineering Group was responsible for carrying out the task. Our job involved inspecting various structures within the center, including 14 one-story buildings, one 3-story garage building, one 2-story garage building, and a 1-story common area canopy.
Did you know that Miami-Dade County instituted a building recertification program in 1975, that mandated structural and electrical inspections for all buildings reaching 40 years of age? Following the tragic Champlain Towers South collapse on June 24, 2021, in Surfside, where 98 residents lost their lives, the Florida Building Code underwent significant modifications. In response to this devastating event, the code now mandates a 30-year Recertification, requiring inspections once a structure reaches three decades since its construction.
